RECOVERY ART PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF PALMANOVA

The new fortress city, guardian of beauty and culture

The Municipality of Palmanova has been selected as one of five sites for the Recovery Art project, funded by the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) with the aim of establishing centres dedicated to the conservation, protection and restoration of works of art damaged by natural disasters.

In the case of Palmanova, the initiative focuses on the repurposing and redevelopment of the ex Caserma Montezemolo, with the aim of restoring value both to the building, an important historical landmark, and to the urban context in which it is located.

The project is supported by the European Union and the Ministry of Culture. The work has been entrusted to the temporary consortium composed of I.C.I. Soc. Coop (lead contractor), Ranzato Impianti S.r.l. and ED Impianti Costruzioni Tecnologiche S.r.l. (principals).

Thanks to the involvement of these companies, Recovery Art in Palmanova combines tradition and innovation: the adoption of BIM technology and compliance with environmental sustainability criteria make it a concrete example of predictive design, projected towards a more advanced and conscious future in construction.

History and culture accessible to everyone

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE STARTING FROM THE FOUNDATIONS

Storage

The redevelopment of the Montezemolo Barracks will enhance its historical memory through the preservation of the original supporting structure and some decorative elements, such as coats of arms and cornices. The building itself will become a refuge for the preservation, restoration and conservation of works affected by natural disasters.

Multifunctionality

The Recovery Art project involves repurposing the Caserma Montezemolo. The original spaces will be renovated, restored and redesigned to serve different functions and enable a variety of activities to take place: event spaces, restoration workshops, exhibition spaces, archives, research facilities, etc.

Accessibility

The restoration will provide an opportunity to create new spaces, to enjoy them in new ways and especially easier for everyone. The project is based on an inclusive architecture that provides for the removal of architectural barriers and the construction of access ramps, lifts and tactile floor signals to ensure that everyone can access and use the new barracks.

Connection

The redevelopment will transform the Caserma Montezemolo in a new place ofrelationship, meeting point and connection betweenculture and citizens, but also among citizens themselves. The new spaces will be used for educational events, exhibitions and workshops that will raise awareness of the historical and cultural heritage of the city of Palmanova and the barracks itself.
