The foundation stone of the Recovery Art project was laid today, marking the launch of the cultural and social regeneration initiative that will transform the ancient star-shaped city into a widespread laboratory of contemporary art, inclusion, and local development. The event was attended by Alessandro Giuli, Minister of Culture; Luca Ciriani, Minister for Relations with Parliament; Mario Anzil, Vice President and Regional Councillor for Culture of Friuli Venezia Giulia; Giuseppe Tellini, Mayor of the City of Palmanova; and Regional Councillor Francesco Martines.

The laying of the foundation stone symbolised the operational start of the worksites and the confirmation of a shared commitment. The symbolic gesture was carried out by Minister Giuli, the Mayor of Palmanova, and members of the project’s technical committee.

Mayor Tellini described the day as a historic milestone for the community:

“Today is a historic moment for the star-shaped city. In a short time, given the tight schedule, the spaces of a barracks abandoned for decades will become home to a new centre for research, restoration and culture. A facility that will give fresh impetus to the project of Palmanova as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where culture, economic development, tourism and services blend and interact to help our entire community grow — to provide a future, jobs, appeal, and tangible economic and social benefits for all citizens.”

Recovery Art represents a virtuous example of how cultural heritage can become a platform for social renewal. Palmanova has a unique history, and today the foundations have been laid for a future in which art becomes a means of community-building, dialogue and innovation.
